Ardbeg Twenty One



Packaging

Ardbeg has been called ‘as close to perfection as makes no difference’ by whisky connoisseurs. Any product with that as its tag line was going to command very high standards and after a competitive pitch process, I was appointed by The Glenmorangie Company to carry out special project marking the highs and lows of the brand’s previous 21 years.

Having fallen into some disrepair and neglect in the 1990s the renewed business was now reaching new internationally acclaimed heights.
Mickey Heads, now Distillery Manager, who was responsible for distilling this very rare whisky, during distillery’s difficult times noted that he had ‘set aside a small number of casks for Ardbeg’s future – including some containing whisky distilled during those perilous days when the Distillery’s future was still uncertain.‘

I designed the packaging for this limited edition bottling. To recreate the feeling of hard times and recovered greatness I used multi-level texturing on the box and the labels with a photograph illustrating the tale told in accompanying text.
